Teen(running down, composed, soft yet strong tone)-"Mom, he tore the cover of my favorite book."
8 yr old(following the teen, high pitched and talking fast)- "Mom it was an accident!"
Me(cooking in the kitchen, I want to be left alone. In a slow tone)- "Tell me, what do you want me to do?"
Teen(still composed)- "Give him a thinking time."
Teen(disappointed and irritated)- "Not fair mom..." and goes away.
Two days later. I walk into my backyard and see the HARRY POTTER book completely wet(the only day it rained in SF) and very antique looking. I got mad, rushed inside, and called for the little one(with a little louder voice) and showed him the book. I said, "You left the book in the garden, now you better pay 10 dollars and sit and think about it, OK?"
My little one runs to his room, counts his dollars religiously, 3 times, gives it to me and says, "I am sorry". That puppy face, I had to hug him, gave his money back and said, "It's OK, next time be more careful".
All this while, the teen is standing there in shock and disbelief. He says with his annoyed composed tone, "NOT FAIR MOM, he gets a hug?? I was keeping that book well for years, treasured it, and now you give him a hug?".
These 'feel good my dear' COOKIES will make anyone feel loved. It did make my teen feel better, at least for a bit.
Take a bite, and you feel like you've eaten cake, ice cream, and cookie all at once. I can without a doubt say it's one of the best cookies I've made in a while. They are soft, pillowy on the inside, and slightly crunchy on the outside with sugary bits in every bite..OMG, it's divine. The beet juice adds a subtle yet beautiful and natural color. You can subconsciously taste it, but not that obviously.

How incredibly unique! I'm not a huge fan of beets, try as I may to be a convert...THIS I may love though!
ReplyDeleteI love beets Ash! This is one heck of a unique cookie! Leave it to YOU to come up with a mascarpone and beet cookie! Yup, if I was your teen, the "hug" would have been forgiven if I had a plate of these!
ReplyDeleteLove all your pictures - specially the last one ;)
Awesome recipe lady - thanks for sharing!
@Angela these cookies might be a great way to start with beets..you will love it..
ReplyDelete@Sashi-thanks darlin..yes, food makes him happy, I'm so glad for that..don't know how long I can pull that off though..:)
You always find such unique recipes to share, which I love! I love the color, too. I share your pain on the home front, too. Apparently I'm not very fair, either. :)
ReplyDeleteAsha, I go through your scenario almost everyday. My 12 yr old thinks that the 8 yr old gets away with everything and we give home too much attention and so on. What they don't realise is that when they were the youngest, they too got the same attention! It's such a struggle sometimes and I want to pull my hair out with the frustration.
ReplyDeleteThese cookies would make ME feel good and I would make them for myself!
They are so gorgeously cake like and cookie like.
Nazneen
Such a nice idea... as usual gorgeous captures!

But, one certainly shouldn't wait until then to make them! I must try these soon, very soon. Lovely photography as always, m'lady! Thanks for sharing! P.S. Raising kids certainly isn't an easy job, is it? Teaching forgiveness is so important. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! I love your take on parenthood, it's so real and I could totally imagine this situation happening.
